Cocoa Tour

The tour is fully accompanied and guided by one of the park’s interpreters and consists on the following stations and activities:

• History of cocoa: At this station, visitors will learn about the origin of cocoa and how the god Quetzalcóalt – known as the feathered serpent – gave us such a precious fruit and how it became into an exquisite drink.
• Drinking chocolate with Recuca: This is a station where you can enjoy “ miga’o ”, a preparation made from bread, pandebono, cheese, arepa and chocolate, and this is where you will learn how to prepare an excellent cup of first quality chocolate.
• The Sacred Forest (trail): In this station, visitors will have the opportunity to visit a cocoa plantation in production, where they will learn about good agricultural practices and plant care. The trail lasts approximately 45 minutes, which is completely paved, flat, easily accessible, suitable for people of all ages and/or those with disabilities.
• Post – harvest: This station is where you will have the opportunity to see the process that occurs with the cocoa after its harvest, here you will be able to see the fermenting drawers and the marquesina or greenhouse where the cocoa is finally dried.
• Artisanal cocoa process: At this station, visitors will learn, see and do step by step how the cocoa can be processed and transformed into home chocolate. (roasted, unshielded, ground and molded).
• Chocolate therapy: At this station, visitors will learn and experience what a (basic) chocolate therapy session is like and all its benefits.

The tour last approximately 3 hours.

Children shorter than 90 cm do not have to pay the entrance fee, if the person is older he or she must pay the full price of the fee.
The tour begins once the group has been formed by 40 people or if after 1 hour no more people have arrived, the tour begins with the people who have already registered regardless of the number of participants.
While the groups are being formed, people have the opportunity to visit the “Fonda Caminera La Putería”, where they will find a wide variety of crafts from our region, buy food, coffee-based drinks, hydrating drinks and even insect repellent for the tour.

Tour price $50,000 per person.

Lunch:
Lunch is a typical lunch from the region “bitute” which consists on: beans, rice, arepa, a slice of ripe plantain, egg, ground beef, chicharrón (pork belly) or chorizo (pork sausage), mazamorra with panela and bogadera which is served in the typical enamel or pewter tableware.

Lunch value $26,000.

Opening hours are every day from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM (last tour).

Recuca is not responsible for weather conditions that affect the performance of some of the activities, however, it offers plastic dresses with hoods with a value of $4000.
All household items, clothing and teaching materials are the exclusive property of “Recuca”.

GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS:
To make the visit more pleasant, it is suggested to bring the following items: insect repellent, comfortable shoes, hat, video or photographic camera, among others that you consider necessary.
